The Man Who Slept for One Hundred Years – A Quran Story About God’s Power to Give Life

الرجل الذى أماته الله مائة عام ثم بعثه

Introduction

Sometimes a person stands before a scene that deeply moves the heart and raises great questions about life, death, and the power of God.

Not every question comes from doubt.
Some questions come from a believing heart that longs to witness the greatness of God more clearly.

This is the story of a man from the Children of Israel who passed by a ruined town and wondered how life could ever return to it.
Through him, God showed a powerful sign that proves a great truth: God is able to bring life after death.

The Story

One day, a man was traveling along a quiet road.
He was riding his donkey and carrying some food and drink with him.

As he continued his journey, he passed by a town that had once been full of life.

But now it was completely destroyed.

Its houses were ruined.
Its roofs had collapsed onto their walls.
Its streets were empty, with no sign of life.

The Qur'an describes it:

“Or like the one who passed by a town while it had fallen into ruin. He said, ‘How will Allah bring this to life after its death?’”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:259)

The man stood there looking at the devastation.

This town had once been full of people and movement.
Now it had become silent ruins.

He wondered in amazement:

“How will Allah bring this town back to life after its death?”

He did not doubt Allah’s power.
Rather, he was amazed at how life could return after such destruction.

But Allah decided to show him the answer in a way he would never forget.

Suddenly, Allah caused him to die.

For one hundred years.

The Qur'an says:

“So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then He brought him back to life.”

A century passed.

Generations came and went.
The town was rebuilt and people returned to live there again.

But the man knew nothing of all this.

When Allah brought him back to life, he was asked:

“How long did you remain?”

He looked around and said:

“I remained a day or part of a day.”

But the reply came:

“No. You remained for one hundred years.”

Then Allah showed him clear signs.

He was told:

“Look at your food and your drink — they have not changed.”

He looked carefully.

The food was still fresh.
The drink had not spoiled.

Even though a hundred years had passed.

Then he was told:

“And look at your donkey.”

He turned and saw something astonishing.

His donkey had turned into scattered bones.

Then an incredible scene unfolded before his eyes.

The bones began to gather together.

Each bone moved to its proper place.

Then flesh began to cover them.

As Allah says in the Qur'an:

“And look at the bones — how We raise them and then cover them with flesh.”

Soon the donkey stood alive again.

The man had now seen with his own eyes the power of Allah.

At that moment his heart filled with certainty, and he said:

“I know that Allah is capable of all things.”

Thus Allah made him a sign for the people, showing that the One who can revive bones and life after death is fully capable of resurrecting all human beings.
